Thottie Twenties: Wear Your Colorful Crop Tops and Tiny Skirts

Today I visited my old high school’s marching band. I decided to bring my 7 year old niece, who is visiting from out of state, along with me. I was dancing with my niece on my back, doing the nae nae. One of the girls in colorguard could not see my face because she was standing behind me. Just meeting her earlier that morning, she recognized who I was and said, “Oh that is the little girl with her mother.”

WHATTTTTTTTTTTTTT?????!!!!!

I quickly corrected her and said, “The little girl is my niece; I don’t have any kids. Thottie Twenties.”

I felt kind of bad for ending my statement with, “Thottie Twenties”, because I did not want to teach a young girl bad habits, but I can honestly say I wholeheartedly support and BELIEVE in the Thottie Twenties movement.

I decided to write this post in response to the For Harriet post, The Thot Paradox. I do not approve of how the word, “thot”, is used to further slut shame women, but after reading the For Harriet post, I wanted to push back and engage in a conversation about the meaning of the word.

As some of you many know, thot is a Chicago slang term that stands for, “that hoe over there”. Me being the very passionate, pro sex liberation feminist that I am, I reclaimed it. (I refuse to let men use another derogatory term to further perpetuate their misogynistic agenda.) I also like using the word because I like how it phonetically sounds. ( I am a very wordy person.)

Thottie Twenties is a phrase I created a few months ago when I went clubbing with one of my sorority sisters. (Shout out to my Baby Turn Up!). It basically means to enjoy your time being single during your 20s and embrace being a Thot. Thot or Thottie Twenties can mean anything to you. To me, Thottie Twenties means going out partying/clubbing, wearing tiny skirts with colorful crop tops, having a couple drinks, grinding on some people when you are dancing, and if you are lucky, go home with someone (please use condoms). Doing all of this WITHOUT ANY SHAME. Now this may or may not be thottie-ish behavior to you, but I use the word, “thot” because the actions I listed previously are not the most “ladylike”, (emphasis on the quotation marks) and are a little more sexual than society would like. (But we don't care about society now do we?) Also, when you are single, you should be able to conduct yourself as a single person.

I created this phrase because for many years I wanted a boyfriend. I am a loving woman and possess the qualities of a good girlfriend. Unfortunately and fortunately, I have not met the right person. Yet, instead of boohooing or desperately searching for love, I embrace being young, single, sexy, and thottie.

Something that I recently learned is that your twenties are your selfish years where you learn about yourself and enjoy being alone. As an older woman in my communication class once said, once you get older, get into a committed relationship/married, and have children, you won’t have the time to be alone like you would when you were in your twenties.

Keeping it 100, this is a defense mechanism to deal with being single.

But hey, let me conduct myself as such. Let me do me.

But I do feel, as a young woman, or for any young woman or person, I should be free, young, single, and not fall victim or be enslaved by my tears because I have yet to find bae. And if I want to be freaky, I shall.

And when I use the phrase, “Thottie Twenties”, that does not include thotting while you are in relationship. Don’t be out here breaking hearts. Also, when you are on you thottie-capades, make sure to practice safe sex, (i.e. use the pill, male condoms, female condoms, etc.), because spreading STIs is not cool either.

With all of that being said…

Thottie on my loves!
